Rising Need For Health Care Workers
With the rising need for health care - in the hospital, nursing homes, and private homes – health care jobs are available for just about any position. Large urban areas always have positions open in the many large hospitals there, and rural hospitals and health care facilities need reliable and dependable nursing staff. No matter what aspect of this broad field you choose, you can be assured that you will be able to find a job no matter where you may go.
With the exception of doctors who are needed everywhere, health care jobs are just as important to those entering into the field of nursing. Registered nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and nursing assistants are all needed. These positions can be found and filled in hospitals, nursing homes, and private physician’s offices. Nurses who prefer a homier place to work can look into Home Health Care offices where they will visit patients recovering at home. Nursing positions can also be very specialized, ranging from an emergency room nurse to an operating suite nurse. Each level of nursing skill will have their own duties and pay can start out at $20,000.00 for an LPN and go as high as $90,000.00 for a Nurse Practitioner, who has completed their Master’s degree and can not only treat, but diagnose ailments like a doctor.
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and Paramedics are just as important as doctor’s and nurses who provide the bulk of the care for any patient. These are usually the first ones to see a patient when they are summoned and they must be able to ascertain the nature of the ailment or injury and pass this information back to the Emergency Room doctor. The doctor will instruct them on how to care for the patient between the time they leave the scene where they pick up the patient to the time they reach the hospital. They not only note vital statistics and perform CPR, but also administer medication, start intravenous lines, and, on occasion, deliver a baby. Salary for these positions range depending on the area in which they work and what the local government can afford.
Other health care positions include laboratory and x-ray technicians. These two specialized fields involve auxiliary care to the patient. Laboratory techs are charged with drawing blood, collecting urine and stool samples, and forwarding all the information to the doctor for further evaluation. X-ray technicians are responsible for taking x-rays, performing ultrasounds and EKG’s, and aiding patients with procedures such as MRIs. Depending on the techs level of training, some X-ray technicians may be able to read the information for the doctor and pass along results. Both of theses fields require specialized training. Salaries for either of these positions start at around $21,000.00 up to $74,000.00
Not all health care positions deal with patient care. Some important ones never even go near the patient. Medical transcriptionists, medical records personnel, and other administrative positions are just as needed in the medical field as they are the ones who keep the records straight, the doctors free to continue treating patients and not writing notes, and the overall running of the facility they work in. Salaries for these positions vary greatly depending on the area in which the potential employee lives.
No matter what type of position someone interested in the health care field looks for, there will something available. Everyone needs doctoring now and again. The choice of field one enters depends on their mental sharpness and patience, desire to help, and willingness to work one on one with someone who needs their help.
